ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — J'Morian Eddie Patrick Bell stood in front of a judge on Thursday and learned that he won't be going home any time soon.
Bell, 17, is charged with shooting a 15-year-old student outside the ninth-grade center at West Orange High School Wednesday, authorities said.
Deputies said Ja'Roderick Smith was shot outside the ninth-grade center at West Orange High School early Wednesday afternoon.
In court Thursday the judge said he found probable cause to charge Bell with crimes related to the school shooting.
Deputies said the shooting took place on the school campus, in the bus loop, and that a fight took place before the shooting.
Smith was shot in the face and abdomen, but his injuries are non-life-threatening, according to investigators. He is being treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
On Thursday, investigators, clad in orange vests, some carrying long sticks and swinging machetes, searched through heavy brush in Winter Garden.
They lined up shoulder-to-shoulder looking for the gun used in Wednesday's shooting.
Bell is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a firearm on school grounds and discharge of firearm on school grounds.
He is being held in the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center.
