BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The world saw its hottest month in recorded history this July, according to NASA.

Temperatures were .43 degrees warmer than any other July on record.

NASA said this past July wasn’t just the warmest July on record, it was the warmest month period, according to global temperature records dating back to 1880.

The analysis was conducted using government databases and satellite technology.

“The bottom line of this is, the last nine years are the warmest on record,” NASA administrator Bill Nelson said.

During an update Monday, NASA and NOAA said 2024 could break even more temperature records, and there are some real-world consequences.

“We know it’s … creating more intense rainfall, we’re seeing that in many places in the world,” said Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. “And we know that’s a contributing factor (to) the growth of wildfires.”

NASA says high sea surface temperatures also contributed to July’s record warmth. This summer, ocean temperatures off the coast of Florida exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit in certain areas.

NASA officials said even considering weather phenomena that can contribute to year-to-year variability in global temperatures. There is a human-driven factor at play, mostly in greenhouse gas emissions.

NASA officials also said Florida is seeing the consequences of seal levels rising in areas like Miami, where coastal flooding is now five times more likely than just 15 years ago.
