• Teen accused of sex with underage girlfriend accepts new plea deal

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - The Indian River County teen accused of having sex with her underage girlfriend has accepted a plea deal.

Kaitlyn Hunt was in court Thursday morning to officially accept the deal after two previous failed ones.

As part of the terms, Hunt pleaded no contest to six lesser counts and will stay in jail until Dec. 20.

Once she is released, she will serve three months of probation, followed by two years of community control.

Because the charges were lessened, Hunt will not have to register as a sex offender.

Hunt was 18 when she had a sexual relationship with her 14-year-old girlfriend.

Hunt's last deal was rescinded after prosecutors said she violated court orders by sending 20,000 text messages to her high school girlfriend, including 25 lewd photos.

Hunt's family said accepting the plea deal was the lesser of two evils.

"It's a horrible situation and it all could have been avoided. It's sad that it ended this way," Kelley Hunt Smith, Kaitlyn's mother said.

The family of Kaitlyn's high school girlfriend said they are satisfied with the outcome.

"We think it's fair. We think it's appropriate. It accomplishes what they wanted, which is no contact with their daughter," said a family member.
