Kennedy Space Center fire is out, authorities say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The wildfire located along the Kennedy Space Center, nicknamed the "Center Fire," is 100 percent contained Friday night.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said the fire had burned 2,350 acres in Brevard County and had  caused the evacuation of about a dozen KSC employees.

The wildfire was caused by a lightning strike on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said firefighters will remain on scene through the weekend to mop up hot spots and watch for spot fires.
