Kitten season prompts Lake County Animal Shelter to host Fosterology 101 class

Fosterology 101

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Animal Shelter will host a Fosterology 101 class on April 15 to prepare the community for the upcoming kitten season.

The session is scheduled for 6 p.m. as the organization seeks to recruit more temporary caregivers for an expected influx of young cats.

Kitten season typically brings a high volume of vulnerable young cats to shelters, increasing the demand for foster families.

The class is designed to provide residents with the skills needed to successfully foster kittens and give them a healthy start before they are ready for permanent adoption.

Whitney Boylston serves as the director of the Office of Animal Services. She said the seasonal surge in kittens is one of the most demanding periods for the shelter. “Kitten season is one of our busiest times of the year,” Boylston said. “Fostering gives these tiny, vulnerable kittens a safe place to grow and thrive, while helping us make room for even more animals in need. When our residents step up to foster, they’re saving lives right here in the community.”

The session is also open to all community members who wish to support the shelter’s lifesaving efforts. Participants will receive instruction on the specific kitten foster program and learn basic care techniques to use during the busy season. Those interested in signing up can visit “Foster an animal with Lake County Animal Shelter” for more information.
