LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone call scam from a man pretending to be a sheriff's deputy.
Resident George Sullivan became suspicious when he got the call yesterday.
"He said that I had failed to appear for a subpoena," said Sullivan.
The caller went on to say that there was a warrant out for Sullivan's arrrest, but it could be taken care of.
"He said, 'We have a way of settling this right here over the phone,'" said Sullivan.
Fortunately, Sullivan realized the call was a scam and hung up before reporting the incident the Sheriff's Office.
"Somebody is using our good name to try and scam people out of money, so we obviously don't like that," said Lt. James Vachon with the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said at least three victims have come forward about receiving the call.
"It's very upsetting that people try to do things like that, but they evidently do it because they get away with it," said Sullivan.
Anyone with information about the scam is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office.
