Lake County seeks volunteers for Harris Chain of Lakes cleanup

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County is looking for volunteers to help clean up waterways around the Harris Chain of Lakes this weekend.

The 2026 Lake County Waterways Cleanup will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers of all ages can participate either by boat or on foot. The county said kayaks will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cleanup will focus on removing litter and debris from areas surrounding the lakes to help protect water quality and wildlife.

Five cleanup locations will be available in Tavares, Eustis, Howey-in-the-Hills and Leesburg, including Hickory Point Park, Ferran Park, Griffin Park, the Venetian Center and Wooton Park West Boat Ramp.

Participants are encouraged to choose a location and register in advance through Lake County.
