Pedestrian killed, another seriously injured in Lake County hit-and-run crash

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a driver who ran from a crash that killed a pedestrian and left another pedestrian with serious injuries.

The crash happened around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday in Lake County near the intersection of Rolling Acres Road and West Lakeview Street.

Troopers said an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Rolling Acres Road south of West Lakeview Street.

According to a news release, for an unknown reason, the driver veered off the road, hitting two pedestrians who were walking on the grass shoulder of the road.

A 40-year-old Leesburg woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 32-year-old Leesburg man was airlifted to the hospital with what is considered to be serious injuries.

Traffic homicide investigators found car parts in the area of the crash and said they are looking for a 2014-2018 Jeep Cherokee that could be involved in the crash, troopers said.

The suspect vehicle could be missing the passenger side mirror and have front right headlight damage.

This crash remains under investigation.
