APOPKA, Fla. — According to the Apopka Police Department, officers recently responded to a call involving a large alligator.
Working alongside a licensed trapper, the alligator was safely captured and relocated. Officials noted that while sightings like this can be alarming, they can often be avoided by staying aware and taking proper precautions.
Residents are advised to keep a safe distance and never approach or feed alligators. Pet owners should keep animals on a leash and away from the water’s edge, and children should be closely supervised near bodies of water.
If a nuisance alligator is spotted, the public is urged not to handle the situation themselves. Instead, contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
