Local airport has hundreds of developable acres; why that matters

Nicole Martz has been in her position as president and CEO of Orlando Sanford International Airport less than a year and, already, she has a quick recall of the airport’s history.

Its history dates back to the 1940s, when the city-owned airport first was founded and later commissioned as an air station and training hub for the U.S. Navy.

It’s more than just trivia for Martz. Rather, the former county manager for Seminole County sees that timeframe as indicative of the type of economic momentum the airport has as part of its legacy — a legacy she and her team are working to build upon.
