For those looking to give a pet a good home, the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is offering free pet adoptions Friday through the weekend.
It costs Pet Alliance around $300 to get a pet ready for adoption, including medical costs, sterilization and microchipping, according to Pet Alliance officials.
According to the group, more than 10,000 dogs and cats will have been turned in to Pet Alliance this year.
"We have set the goal to have our two animal shelters empty by Dec. 31 with every homeless pet being placed in a permanent new home," said organization director Kerri Burns in a press release.
Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has shelters at 2727 Conroy Road in Orlando and at 2800 County Home Road in Sanford. Both shelters are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
