ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Orange County is alerting residents after confirming a human case of locally acquired dengue.
The department announced the case Wednesday as part of an updated mosquito-borne illness advisory.
DOH-Orange said it is working with Orange County Mosquito Control to expand surveillance and prevention efforts in affected communities.
Officials said targeted mosquito control treatments have also been increased in an effort to reduce mosquito populations.
Health officials urge residents to avoid mosquito bites
Residents are being encouraged to take precautions against mosquito bites as health officials continue monitoring for mosquito-borne illnesses.

More information about mosquitoes and preventing mosquito-borne illnesses is available on the Florida Department of Health’s mosquito prevention website.
The department said it continues statewide surveillance for dengue as well as West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, malaria and chikungunya.
