OCALA, Fla. — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot Monday morning at an apartment complex in Ocala, police said.
The shooting happened at the Spring Manor apartment complex around 9 a.m.
Resident Eugenia Marlin said she heard the gunshots and immediately went to check on her children.
"I was like, 'Oh my God,' and I ran back to my room and I got my kids and put them on the floor," Marlin said.
Police officers said they found the victim, Antonio Jones, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Investigators are searching for clues and asking the community for help in solving the crime.
"As long as we don't know who's doing it, and their method for solving is to shoot, that's concerning," Marlin said.
Marlin said she knew she victim and was sad to learn that he had been killed.
"I'm praying for him and his family," Marlin said.
Marlin also told Eyewitness News she plans to move out of the apartment complex because the crime has increased.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact Ocala police.
