EDGEWATER, Fla. — Edgewater police are investigating after a man was found dead in a retention pond Sunday morning.
Officers responded around 10 a.m. to a retention pond near Palmetto Street and 10th Street after someone walking in the area spotted a man in the water.
Police identified the man as Jonathan R. Lyon, 48.
Investigators said there are currently no indications of foul play and no threat to the public.
Preliminary findings indicate Lyon may have accidentally entered the water during the early morning hours and, for an unknown reason, was unable to get out, according to police.
The cause and manner of Lyon’s death have not been determined. Edgewater police are continuing to investigate alongside the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police cautioned that the preliminary findings could change as investigators gather additional evidence and interview witnesses.
