DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police say a man was killed in a shooting at a convenience store early Saturday morning that was all caught on camera.
Investigators say it started just before 1 a.m. with an argument inside the store at 518 South Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Officers were called to the store for reports of shots fired where they arrived to find the victim, 30-year-old Bobby Willis III, dead from at least one gunshot wound.
Police say surveillance video clearly shows their suspect, 32-year-old Ricky Kelly, holding the door open for Willis as he tried to leave, while other customers attempted to keep him in the store.
As Willis exited the store, police say Kelly pulled a gun and shot him in the chest.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood described the shooting as an “ambush.”
Police say as Willis fell to the ground, he pulled his own gun and was able to return fire, shooting the suspect at least once.
Kelly left the scene in a private vehicle and was taken to Halifax Hospital to undergo surgery.
He’s expected to survive and police say they'll charge him with first-degree murder once he recovers.
Police say the surveillance video that captured the incident will not be released to the public as it is a part of the active investigation.
