Man files suit against Orlando cops after police dog attack

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — An Orlando man is suing two Orlando police officers for using excessive force because he said they allowed a police dog to attack him even after he was in custody.

Colin Edwards admits he ran from police in 2008 when they tried to pull him over for running a stop sign. The officers used a police dog to find Edwards in the woods.

The dog latched onto Edwards' leg and he surrendered, but he said the officers let the dog continue biting him for 5 to 7 minutes.

"It felt like something eating you alive. This pain was crazy," said Edwards.

The city tried to get the lawsuit tossed out, but a court ruled the use of the dog became excessive when it was allowed to keep attacking Edwards.

The court called the further infliction of pain gratuitous and sadistic. City of Orlando officials said they had no comment because of the pending lawsuit.
