Man from Guatemala accused of molesting 10-year-old girl in Apopka may be deported

APOPKA, Fla. — An illegal immigrant from Guatemala was arrested after police said he molested a young girl inside a bounce house at a child’s birthday party in Apopka.

Elvin Callopez is in the Orange County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

He’s facing charges that may send him to prison for the rest of his life.

Police said he Callopez molested the 10-year-old victim seven times at a party Saturday night.

“I’m in shock because, I know him, and I don’t think he would do that,” said Bianca Mendoza, who was at the party and witnessed the arrest.

A police report said the young victim told her mother that that, “Elvin touched her in her genital area while she was in the bounce house approximately seven times.”

The report also said when police confronted Callopez at his home, he told them he changed his clothes, “because he thought he would be going to jail and he knew it was cold."

Investigators said after Callopez left the party he texted his friend that he needed help because he made a mistake.

Mendoza said Callopez was the party hostess’ brother-in-law, but didn’t know the victim.

“We’re praying for him and everything and hopefully he’s going to have his court date,” Mendoza said.

Callopez may be deported as the investigation continues.
