DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jermaine Long, the man accused of slashing a 13-year-old boy’s throat near the Slingshot ride on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk in February, has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.

The teen and his family spoke in court Thursday during Long’s sentencing hearing. Long, 44, pleaded no contest in the Valentine’s Day attack, which left the boy with a severe cut to his neck; he survived and required 13 stitches.

Long was initially charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon before prosecutors added an attempted first-degree murder charge.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors said other pending charges against Long were also resolved.
