WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A man who was jailed on charges of fatally shooting his ex-wife's boyfriend has died, Seminole County officials said Monday.
Michael Friedman, 63, was accused of shooting and killing James McCarthy, 49, in a Winter Springs home in June.
Detention deputies said they were alerted Sunday night by an inmate that Friedman was having a medical emergency.
A jail nurse responded and administered an AED and compressions on Friedman, who was then taken to South Seminole Hospital, where he died.
The preliminary investigation shows that Friedman died of natural causes..
Investigators said Friedman's ex-wife had an injury on her head from being beaten during the confrontation in the home in June.
Friedman's ex-wife had filed a restraining order against him in 2013.
Friedman was found in Citrus County the day after the shooting, sitting in his car, which had a hose running from the exhaust into the vehicle in an attempt to kill himself, according to authorities.
Friedman had been incarcerated in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility since June 26 on a first-degree murder charge.
