Man hospitalized in Melbourne condo shooting

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police said they are looking for at least one gunman who shot a man.

The shooting happened just before midnight Tuesday at the Windover Palms condominiums on Olympic Way.

The victim is in stable condition at Holmes Regional Medical Center after being shot in the leg and hand, police said.

"We received a phone call in the apartment complex of multiple gunshots that went off, and when we arrived, we had a single male victim who apparently received a gunshot wound to his leg and to his finger," said Lt. Pete Mercaldo of the Melbourne Police Department.

Residents said they were surprised the shooting happened at the quiet condo complex.

"Little bit different. I didn't think it would happen here. Doesn't seem like a bad area," said resident Kenneth Bishop.

Investigators have not released a description of the shooter, and they may be looking for a second person as well.
