ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Authorities are looking for the person who shot and killed a man in the middle of an Orange County neighborhood minutes after the victim spoke to deputies.
The victim, identified by deputies as Anthony Jones, 39, was talking to deputies who were on patrol at the Blossom Park condominiums about 10 minutes before he was shot on West Landstreet Road, said authorities.
Authorities said Jones told them he was waiting for a friend.
"By chance, we happened to have three deputies doing proactive patrols here, because of previous issues, and while they were patrolling, they heard the gunshots, too. They responded to the scene and they found an individual they had checked out within about 10 minutes beforehand had been shot," said Parks Duncan of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
WFTV found out the property has a troubled past and is in receivership. That means the complex is bankrupt, and a receiver serves as caretaker and handles the finances.
WFTV talked to court appointed receiver, Frank Paul Barber, who described some of the problems, including gang activity and tenants with criminal backgrounds who were not screened by owners.
Another big concern for the receiver is the fact there is not 24-hour security.
"What we're going to do is get off-duty police from the sheriff's office to patrol because it's really getting serious," Barber said.
Deputies said they do not have a description of the gunmen.
Officers acquired a copy of the video from a surveillance camera which might have captured the killing.
