ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was hit by two vehicles at Orlando Speedworld on Wednesday night, according authorities.
The owner of Speedworld on E. Colonial Drive in Bithlo said the victim is going to be OK.
“I just saw two cars coming together, they hooked and went to the outside wall but they said they hit a track worker,” said spectator David Smart.
The 29-year-old man, who has not been identified, was on the tracks when he was hit by cars going more than 50 miles per hour and had to be airlifted to the hospital about 7:30 p.m., officials said.
The track owner spoke to Channel 9’s Angela Jacobs over the phone from Georgia.
He said the accident happened on the Oval Track where the “Us Legend Cars” series has been holding nationals this week.
The cars are modified with the engines of a Yamaha motorcycle.
A spokesperson for the race did not want to comment on the crash.
Smart saw first responders tend to the victim.
“They worked with him and flew a helicopter in that landed right there on the track and took him out of here,” he said.
No other information was released.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
