FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An 80-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was killed over the weekend when he was hit by a BMW SUV driving on a closed road during the Michelob ULTRA Fort Lauderdale 13.1 race, police said.
Arthur Knochenhauer was participating in the half-marathon Sunday when the crash happened in the 1700 block of East Las Olas Boulevard, which had been closed for the race, investigators said.
Officers reported that a black 2016 BMW SUV was driving eastbound on the road at about 8:12 a.m. when it hit the runner.
Knochenhauer was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died, police said.
The driver of the BMW was not identified and no charges have been filed in the case.
