MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Two Marion County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were broken into over the past week and authorities are working to identify whoever is esponsible.
During the thefts, five guns and other equipment were stolen, investigators said.
“These subjects out here are very bold,” Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ryan Robbins said. “ … We need to do everything we can to locate them.”
In one case, the cruiser was parked in a gated community where there were more than a dozen break-ins, deputies said.
The deputy’s patrol car and his personal vehicle were broken into in that case and his service weapon and a personal weapon were stolen.
The deputy told investigators that his personal vehicle was unlocked, but his service vehicle was locked.
Investigators would not release details on the types of weapons that were stolen.
In the second case, the Sheriff’s Office vehicle was broken into in a separate part of the county.
Investigators said the deputy in that case was not sure if the doors to the vehicle were locked or not, but they could not find any evidence of forced entry.
Authorities believe the break-ins could be related.
Investigation into the thefts is ongoing.
