ORLANDO, Fla. — Residents who live near the Citrus Bowl got an update Thursday evening on what to expect during the renovation of the old stadium.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer hosted the meeting to announce timelines and show new renderings for the $175 million makeover.
There will be a new exterior, new seating, new suites and new team facilities, according to the renderings.
Local business owners, contractors and Parramore residents showed up. Some, like Daphne Brewington, had questions about traffic, noise and what neighbors can expect.
Brewington has lived just three blocks from the Citrus Bowl off and on since 1958. She said she came to the meeting with a lot of concerns.
Officials said nearby residents can expect more noise, dust and debris and more traffic.
Leaders are now calling the makeover a reconstruction and the mayor said about 80 to 90 percent of the stadium will be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up.
"It'll be a beautiful stadium, it'll be able to accommodate some great bowl games and additional events we want to bring," Dyer said.
Officials said the project will generate thousands of jobs.
Contractors eager to get a piece of the multimillion-dollar project also turned out Thursday tonight.
The city reassured attendees at least 18 percent of the crews on the job will be minority-owned businesses.
"As long as I can see there is going to be a positive effect, no problem," Brewington said.
