Melbourne man charged after paying undercover officer in murder-for-hire plot

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Police have arrested a man in connection with a murder-for-hire plot in Melbourne.

According to the police report, Samir Mohammad Fawaka offered a man $500 and a '99 Dodge van to kill someone he knew through his family.

As it turns out, the man Fawaka sought for the job was an undercover officer posing as a hit man.

A second meeting was set up and Fawaka paid the undercover detective $150 and said the rest of the money and the vehicle would be provided after the hit.

After the meeting, Melbourne investigators said they contacted the intended victim and placed him into protective custody to give Fawaka the impression that the murder had taken place.

On Friday, Fawaka met with the undercover detective in a parking lot on North Wickham Road. During the meeting, Fawaka said he believed the intended target had been murdered and he gave the undercover officer an additional $350 and signed the title of ownership of the van over to him.

At the end of the meeting, Fawaka was taken into custody and charged with solicitation to commit murder. He's currently being held in the Brevard County Jail.
