Motorcyclist dies after being struck by car in Volusia County, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A crash between a car and a motorcycle claimed the life of a Volusia County man Sunday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers responded to Wright Street and Circle Drive in Daytona Beach shortly after 5 p.m.

At the scene, they determined the crash happened as the driver of a Ford Focus attempted to turn south onto Circle Drive and collided with the motorcyclist.

Troopers said the Focus was traveling westbound on Wright Street and turned left, directly into the path of the oncoming 2005 Suzuki motorcycle.

FHP said a witness told troopers that the bike was traveling above the speed limit.

The motorcyclist, 60, of Daytona Beach. was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center, but did not survive, troopers said.

The Ford’s driver, 32, of Holly Hill, wasn’t hurt. FHP said he remained at the scene after the crash, which remains under investigation.
