New AAU president to announce new task force to protect young athletes

CENTRAL FLORIDA,None — Officials with the Central Florida-based Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will speak Wednesday afternoon about sex abuse charges against the group's former president and CEO.

As WFTV first reported last week, a man said Bobby Dodd molested him in the 1970s and 1980s when Dodd was a YMCA coach.

The new president of the AAU is expected to announce two new task forces to enhance the safety and protection of youth athletes.

Dodd has denied the accusations that were reported to the AAU through anonymous emails and phone messages.

"Unlike Penn State, unlike Syracuse and the Citadel, we acted immediately," AAU President Louis Stout said. "We didn't wait six months to find out, if this was a protective thing because of the executive director. We acted immediately; we formed our own internal investigative process. And, once we found out who the accusers were, we immediately went to the department."

The two men who have gone public with their claims of abuse say they were prompted to talk by the scandals at Penn State, Syracuse and the Citadel.

The men were young basketball players in Tennessee at the time that they claim the abuse occurred.
