OCOEE, Fla. — For several years, Ocoee has been dealing with a City Hall that has been slowly sinking into the ground.
In 2014, the city paid $35,000 for a five-year fix for the 20-year-old building.
Now, as the lifespan of the temporary measure nears its end, city officials have decided the best permanent fix is to build a new city hall about a block away.
While making a permanent fix to the current structure would cost about $1 million, the new facility will set the city back about $9 million.
Because Ocoee’s population has been steadily growing, Mayor Rusty Johnson said a new city hall would have been necessary regardless.
The new building will be built at the corner of McKey Street and Bluford Avenue and is scheduled to open in October 2019.
The city borrowed money by issuing bonds to pay for the new facility, Johnson said.
