Ocoee Lt. firefighter faces another investigation

OCOEE, Fla. — 9 Investigates discovered that a high-ranking Ocoee firefighter, once accused of a cover up, is under investigation again.

Lt. Corey Bowles was accused of cutting a repelling rope after a co-worker fell during training in 2013.

Bowles is now being investigated for possibly making mistakes with critical emergency training.

"It's worrisome. It really is worrisome," Ocoee Mayor Scott Vandergrift said.

Bowles is accused of handing out a signed CPR certification card to a civilian employee who hadn't actually taken Bowles' CPR class.

"Are you confident that a thorough investigation will be done this time around?" reporter Kenneth Craig asked.

"No, no," Vandergrift said.

The mayor has been critical for years of the way the city handled other investigations into Bowles and the former fire department chief.

"My biggest concern? Standing here talking to you. Trying to say, 'Well everything is OK,' and I don't know that it is," Vandergrift said.

The fire department's new chief called the CPR mistake inappropriate, but said it did not appear to be malicious.

The chief doesn't expect Bowles to face serious discipline and said the investigation is still ongoing.
