One dead following Volusia Co. motorcycle crash

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A Massachusetts man was killed Friday night after state troopers said he crashed his motorcycle in New Smyrna Beach near North Causeway and Riverside Drive.

Mark Twining, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle, troopers said.

Witnesses said Robert Wilson, 29, and Twining were driving their motorcycles westbound in the center lane of North Causeway at a high rate of speed and both drivers lost control when they passed through the intersection at Riverside Drive,

Troopers said Twining struck a utility pole, and Wilson left the roadway and crashed inside Old Fort Park.

Wilson suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released from Bert Fish Medical Center.

Twining was wearing an unapproved department of transportation helmet.

Troopers said alcohol is suspected to be factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
