WFTV found out a former Orange County firefighter was arrested on grand theft charges.
Jared Vega is accused of illegally obtaining more than $90,000 from the county.
The accusation stemmed from a worker's compensation claim.
Vega was on worker's compensation, following a heart attack.
But state fraud investigators said he lied about his medical history and had a pre-existing medical condition that would have automatically disqualified him from ever working here as a firefighter.
Vega’s condition is called protein deficiency, which causes the blood to clot.
"While off duty, he had a heart attack and was subsequently taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital," said Det. Jan Cary of the Florida Department of Financial Services.
Cary said following treatment at Dr. Phillip's Hospital, Vega was off the job and filed a worker's compensation claim.
But he never told the county about his condition when he applied for the job, and investigators said he later lied under oath to conceal it.
"He requested the doctor not to tell his employer about his condition because it would affect his employment," said Cary.
In fact, the county says he should never have been hired.
Under federal standards, anyone with his condition would be disqualified from becoming a firefighter.
In the end, they said Vega's deception cost the county more than $92,000.
Vega, who resigned from his job, is facing four felony charges and up to 20 years in prison.
