6th teen arrested in connection with killing man in Polk County Airbnb during drug deal

A sixth teenager has been arrested in connection with killing a 22-year-old man during a rug deal at an Airbnb last year.

D’Shawn Whitehead appeared before an Orange County judge on Monday in connection with the death of Tyler Crane. He was recently indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, accessory after the fact to a felony and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm that he allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.

The judge on Monday ruled Whitehead would be held without bond for the first-degree murder charge.

Whitehead joins Elijah Poole and four others arrested late last year.

According to court documents, the suspects, who range from 15 to 19 years old, lured Crane to a Polk County Airbnb for a drug deal then robbed and beat him. Then, 19-year-year old Andres Camilo fired the bullet that killed Crane, he told investigators.

Some of the suspects’ attorneys have tried to argue their clients weren’t key players and should be allowed out of jail, but the judge has not granted them that so far.

The teens tried to destroy and get rid of the gun afterward in another county, according to the indictment. Crane’s body has not been found.

It was not immediately clear why Whitehead wasn’t mentioned in earlier court documents, or why he was just indicted.
