The extra need is also putting more stress on Matthew’s Hope’s resources.

With more people on the streets, Matthew’s Hope is having to go out and provide services to more people.

The price of food and supplies is also going up, so they have been forced to cut back on some of the food they are able to give out.

“It’s just hard. It’s hard. I’m old and I’m about tired of it,” said Lisa Dees.

Dees said times are tough and she’s been living in the woods and on the street.

“We’re seeing more people right now who are living in cars being pushed to the streets, and many that are young families, seniors and those with disabilities,” said Pastor Scott Billue with Matthew’s Hope Ministries.

Billue said his organization is seeing more people are looking for services in Winter Garden.

New homeless families are blaming skyrocketing rent for pushing them out.

“The rising rents, you know, very little affordable housing, fuel, literally fueling the rise of the cost of everything,” Billue said.

In April, Zillow released a report showing in the Orlando area rent rose nearly 25% in the last year, the third highest increase in the nation.

On top of that, Billue said the rising food costs are taking a toll on supplies.

While they are still offering meals, medical services and clothing, in their food pantry, people getting extra food items to go are receiving around 30% less than they used to.
