COVID-19 updates: Florida reports 5,400 new coronavirus cases, 79 more deaths

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Department of Health officials reported a total of 5,419 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, with 1,215 of those cases in Central Florida.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 2,238,937 cases of the virus reported in Florida.

The number of negative COVID-19 tests in the state increased by 24,351, bringing the total number of tests to 10,466,094.

The state on Thursday also reported 79 additional COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the state’s death toll of residents and nonresidents to 35,937.

Of the most recent COVID-19-related deaths, 22 were reported in Central Florida, including eight in Marion County, five in Lake, four in Volusia, three in Orange and one each in Polk and Flagler counties.

Osceola, Seminole, Brevard and Sumter counties reported no deaths.
