Oh baby! Meet first babies born in Central Florida this decade

ORLANDO, Fla. — The first baby born at an Orlando Health hospital this decade is already acing it when it comes to timing.

The hospital said in a statement that baby Ace was born at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital just as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Day, weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces and measuring at 19 and 1/4 inches.

Four minutes later, the first baby of 2020 was born at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer. The hospital said the little girl weighed in at 6 pounds and 13 ounces and measured 19 inches.

Up at AdventHealth Ocala, the first baby of the year took a little longer to arrive. The hospital said baby Aaliyah Rose Walker was born at 12:32 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces. The hospital said both mom and baby are resting and doing well.

According to UNICEF, an estimated 392,078 babies will be born around the world on New Year’s Day – an estimated 10,452 of those in the U.S.

“As the calendar flips each January, we are reminded of all the possibility and potential of each child embarking on her or his life’s journey—if they are just given that chance,” said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF executive director, in a news release.
