ORLANDO, Fla. — A group of seniors got a free, potentially life-saving ride to get a coronavirus vaccine in Orlando on Thursday.
City leaders said it was just the start of a larger push to help the people who need it most.
At around 10 a.m., more than a dozen seniors in the Lake Lorna Doone neighborhood boarded a bus that took them to get the vaccine at the Valencia College site.

Patricia Davis, 70, has lived in the Lake Lorna Doone housing projects for more than a decade. She no longer drives and wanted to get the vaccine.
“I just want to be protected,” Davis said. “If I didn’t have anybody to pick me up, I couldn’t do it.”

District 5 Commissioner Regina Hill said the rides are targeting certain areas that need help the most, including the ZIP codes 32801, 32805, 32811, 32835 and 32808
Hill said her next target will be reaching the city’s homebound residents.

“I’m going to be working with Florida Emergency Management Department to start focusing on our homebound seniors and those that have underlying issues and cannot leave the home,” Hill said.
Buses will continue to pick up residents throughout Orlando’s west side. For information on how to get a free ride, contact Hill’s office at 407-246-2005.
