Orange County Sheriff John Mina said deputies approached a group of four people in the parking lot outside Dick’s Sporting Goods, which is connected to the mall.

He said one of the people was wanted on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was a person of interest in a shooting that happened three weeks ago on Powers Ridge Court in the Pine Hills neighborhood.

Mina said a man in his 20s who was armed with a stolen Glock ran and a deputy shot him.

Mina said the deputy who shot the man has been with the agency for 12 to 13 years. The deputy was uninjured.

A body-worn camera recorded the shooting, which is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Mina said at least one of the people in the group was under surveillance at the time of the shooting.
