ORLANDO, Fla. – The dream of homeownership recently came true for one Parramore resident, who acquired her home through Orlando's Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency.
The group is committed to expanding the city's housing inventory for residents.
Christmas came early for Tamara Frazier, who just graduated from the University of Central Florida.
“I have three bedrooms and two bathrooms,” Frazier said. “It’s really exciting to kind of bring in Christmas here in a new home, just starting to build new traditions.”
Frazier owns one of 17 homes in Parramore under the city's program for first-time buyers. The homes all cost around $225,000.
“You can be a person that can receive up to $100,000 down payment assistance if you can show connections to Parramore,” said Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill.
Resident in the program must also secure a $120,000 loan.
“We will do an additional 42 more homes, to round it off to about 59 homes by the time we complete our home ownership program here in the Parramore corridor, which will be mixed income,” Hill said.
Applicants are entered into a lottery system. Frazier was actually second on the list, but the application for the first person in line fell through.
