Walt Disney World to celebrate 50th anniversary with ‘The World’s Most Magical Celebration’

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Walt Disney World will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, and the resort is using the milestone to announce some big changes.

Walt Disney World Resort opened to guests on Oct. 1, 1971 after years of planning and development by Walt Disney.

In the five decades since, the vacation destination continued to expand with new stories, characters and adventures to cherish for a lifetime.

To celebrate the five decades of Disney magic in Central Florida, the park will begin “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” starting Oct. 1.

The event will feature new experiences at the resort’s four theme parks over 18 months.

Attractions including Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park will feature new golden enhancements as part of its 2020 makeover.

Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, will dress in new styles.

Other areas of the theme parks will light up the night sky with a “Beacons of Magic” transformation.
