ORLANDO, Fla. — Forget broomsticks. These witches took a ride 400 feet above Orlando.
A group of 184 people dressed as witches packed The Orlando Eye on Wednesday for a sunset ride, setting a world record for the most participants in witch attire on an observation wheel, organizers said.
Pointed hats and witches’ cloaks filled the attraction’s capsules as riders soared above International Drive. Norah White, president and CEO-elect of the I-Drive District, verified the participant count.
Participants received free admission for the record attempt, which brought a Halloween twist to the Central Florida skyline.
They also had some familiar company: LEGO Wacky Witch from LEGOLAND Florida Resort and Peppa Pig from Peppa Pig Theme Park, Florida, joined the festivities.
The gathering highlighted Halloween celebrations and seasonal deals at Merlin Entertainments’ Florida attractions.
For Central Florida families planning their own outing, those offerings include:
- The Orlando Eye: For a limited time, standard admission includes entry to either SEA LIFE Orlando or Madame Tussauds Orlando at no extra cost. Three-attraction passes start at $39.
- Peppa Pig Theme Park, Florida: Peppa’s Halloween Party runs on select dates through Oct. 31.
- LEGOLAND Florida Resort: Brick or Treat continues on select dates through Nov. 1.
