ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Science Center is holding a Veteran's Day event to unveil a new monument to the Tuskegee Airmen.
The monument will be revealed during a 10 a.m. ceremony Monday. Several surviving members from the first group of African-American military aviators in the U.S. armed forces will be on hand.
Known for the signature red-tailed P-51 Mustang planes they flew during World War II, the airmen will be honored with a 12-foot spire that features an inspirational message.
There were 992 pilots trained at Tuskegee, Ala., a large number of whom served combat duty overseas.
In honor of the airmen, the center will also hold a screening of "Red Tails," the 2012 film which portrayed them.
