Orlando City Council to consider permanent ban on after-hours clubs

ORLANDO, Fla. — People who enjoy the Orlando nightlife may be heading home sooner than they would like as the city council is considering a permanent ban on after-hours clubs.

The ban would affect any club that currently stays open later than 2 a.m.

A temporary ban on after-hours clubs was put into effect in 2015, but in a meeting Thursday the council could make it permanent.

Proponents of the ordinance say they are against longer club hours because of the strain it puts on police, firefighters and other first responders.

Orlando resident Carolyn Skog was hoping the council would vote to make the ban permanent.

“Well, I do think it just breeds trouble to just have been out drinking all night,” she said. “I don’t see the point (of longer hours) from a safety standpoint and a resources standpoint.”

The Orlando City Council will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday to vote on the ban.
