ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — More than a dozen immigration reform protesters who were arrested during a rally in Orlando on Tuesday have been released from jail.
Fifteen protesters were arrested after they blocked traffic at a busy intersection in downtown Orlando during rush hour.
Hundreds gathered to march in favor of immigration reform and to demand a clear path to citizenship, but more than a dozen took to the street in a sit-down protest.
Police allowed the group to sit in the street for nearly 30 minutes before they began arresting people.
Hundreds of other protesters moved their march for immigration reform from downtown Orlando to the Orange County Jail.
The group then held a candlelight vigil for the protesters who were arrested.
Many were still outside the jail in the predawn hours to offer a round of applause and warm breakfast to those being released.
"It wasn't a really good experience," said protester Alma Javier. "I didn't think I was going to be there all night. Hopefully it's going to be worth it."
"We knew that this would be a possibility and we were willing to take that risk," said Jeremy Haicken-Cruz after he was released from jail.
By 8 a.m., all of the protesters had posted bond and been released.
