Because of the increase in estimated travelers, OIA said the most significant recommendation is for travelers to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight.

Paula Wong followed that suggestion and said it made her time in the airport fly by.

“I got here three-and-a-half hours ahead of time so I could check a bag through Southwest and it took five minutes,” she said. “I’m sitting here because it doesn’t look like there’s a line for TSA Pre-check. I’m in shock.”

Other travelers said their experience during the holiday weekend has been smooth, and Wong said she doesn’t mind waiting for her flight if it makes the process easier.

“We’re going to hang out, do some jogging, sit-ups, (and) pushups,” Rick Flores said.
