Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer delivers State of the City address

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer on Friday delivered the 2017 State of the City address at City Hall.

Dyer highlighted the city's recent accomplishments and future plans on public safety, housing, transportation, planning and sustainability.

The mayor said 15 bike patrols have been added to downtown in anticipation of the University of Central Florida's new campus, which opens in 2019.

The city is trying to secure grants to add 15 more bike patrols in the year ahead.

Dyer said 12 firefighters will be hired to staff a fire station in the Lake Nona development.

He also discussed a new Train to the Plane shuttle, which will take SunRail riders from the Sand Lake Road station to Orlando International Airport in less than 15 minutes.

Dyer said $5 million has been spent to build 30 single-family homes in the Parramore neighborhood.

"Orlando united: two words born our of tragedy," Dyer said. "But because of you they have become the embodiment of what makes our community special, and how we are going to own the future."

Dyer reflected on the Pulse nightclub shootings and on the shooting death of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton.

Instead of a moment of silence, the crowd honored Clayton with standing applause.
