ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Museum of Art will open its doors for free Thursday as part of its monthly Access for All program.
Visitors can enter the museum at no cost from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 17, with guided tours, gallery activities and family-friendly programming scheduled throughout the day.
The program is supported by the Art Bridges Foundation and is designed to expand access to the museum regardless of cost.
“Access for All is about removing every barrier between our community and the art in these galleries,” OMA CEO Cathryn Mattson said.
New Florida exhibition opens
Thursday’s event also marks the opening of “Floridiana: Material Culture from The Sunshine State.”
The exhibition features more than 130 objects from the collection of photographer, author and educator Gary Monroe and explores how visitors experienced and imagined Florida during the mid-20th century.
OMA recently also opened “Hello Sophie!: The Artwork of Sophie Blackall,” featuring original art from more than 50 children’s books illustrated by Blackall.
Thursday’s schedule
Noon to 1 p.m. — Art Sandwiched In Museum Educator Clara Velasquez Levin will lead a discussion of Colombian artist Fernando Botero in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.
2:30 p.m. — Gallery Talk in English A museum curator will lead a discussion focused on abstract art.
3:30 p.m. — Gallery Talk in Spanish The same abstract-art discussion will be offered in Spanish.
5 to 7 p.m. — Sketching in the Galleries Drawing supplies will be available for visitors of all ages.
7 p.m. — Highlights Tour A docent-led tour will take visitors through several museum galleries and featured works.
Access for All is held monthly at the Orlando Museum of Art through a three-year initiative supported by the Art Bridges Foundation.
