ORLANDO, Fla. — A year after 22-year-old Dequan Rozier was shot to death in Orlando, police have released recordings of cellphone calls between the victim and his alleged killer in the hopes that someone will recognize the kiler's voice.
Investigators with the Orlando Police Department released recordings Tuesday of three calls, one of which took place moments before 4:50 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2015, when Rozier was shot and killed.
"I'm going to call you and tell you to come outside. I'm going to come through Malibu," the caller said to Rozier.
In one call, the unidentified person on the other end of the line discusses meeting Rozier, and in another, he offers to sell Rozier drugs.
A year after the young father’s shooting death, police have still not identified a suspect, and Rozier’s family continues to plead for someone to come forward.
Police hope Rozier’s decision to record his phone conversations might help them catch his killer.
“This is a good law enforcement move to then gather the evidence they need for a successful prosecution,” said WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer.
Anyone who believes they recognize the voice in the calls released by the Orlando Police Department is urged to contact investigators.
