Orlando police say they’re seeing a rise in internal affairs investigations

ORLANDO, Fla. — 9 Investigates has learned that the Orlando Police Department has had a rise in internal affairs investigations, above average even in a pandemic year.

These investigations include everything from car crashes to being late for work. Most, if not all, of the investigations were opened internally and not because of a citizen complaint.

Orlando police said they average around 100 internal affairs reports every year. But this year was above average at 140. Looking at the last three years, OPD had 119 internal affairs reports initiated in 2019 and 80 in 2020.
