ORLANDO, Fla. — After a long stretch of quiet conditions in the tropics, we are watching a new area of interest.
The system, located in the open waters of the Atlantic, is a trough of low pressure that is very disorganized.
As it drifts west-northwestward, atmospheric conditions may allow for some organization by late week in the western Atlantic.
The National Hurricane Center is giving this area just a 20% chance of development.
Should anything substantial organize, it will likely lift northward and northeastward away from Florida and the US.
We remain in the peak of hurricane season, but strong wind shear continues to keep tropical systems from developing.
Additional areas of interest will likely be explored over the next several weeks as we continue to work through the peak of the season.
